The Ediacaran from the Moldova-Podillya Basin (3rd stop)

Not too far away is the "La Izvor" canyon (grey mark on the map) which represents an excellent place to analyze the outcrops of the Ediacaran succession. Here are exposed the upper part of the Bronnytsya Member, the Zinkiv Member (Yaryshiv Formation) and the lower part of the Dzhurzhivka Member (Nagoryany Formation).

The upper part of the Bronnytsya Member is represented by red argillites which are separated from the Zinkiv Member by a thin layer of bentonites.

The Zinkiv Member consists of green argillites in the lower part which prograde to siltstones and sandstones at the top.

There is no clear boundary between the Zinkiv Member and the Dzurzhivka Member, but it is considered that after the sandstones become the predominant lithology, then the sedimentary succession can be attributed to the Dzhurzhivka Member. The lower part of the Dzhurzhivka Member is characterized by greyish sandstones.
