The last stop of the field trip took place in the Cosăuți quarry (grey mark), where the Ediacaran Cosăuți sandstones transgressively lie on the metamorphic rocks of the crystalline basement. The basement has occasional granitic intrusions.
The Cosăuți member is represented by greyish-yellowish fine- to coarse-grained sandstones, while the crystalline basement consists of hard, blackish metamorphic rocks. However, the metamorphic rocks don't show a distinct schistose texture but resemble basaltic rocks.
During our field trip, we managed to find Nemiana simplex organisms on the slabs of the Cosăuți sandstones.
The transitional layer between the basement and the Cosăuți Member.
There is a transitional layer between the crystalline basement and the Cosăuți sandstones, which is represented by weathered greenish sandstones.
